Material Notes

Acetate with a lighter footprint and a naturally individual look.

Our acetate direction is inspired by plant-based cellulose acetate, a material loved for its depth, polish, and soft translucency. The marbling shifts from sheet to sheet, giving each clip a slightly different rhythm.

Instead of chasing perfect sameness, the collection celebrates small variations: clouded ivory, honey tortoise, champagne pearl, and glossy noir.

Acetate Craft

From renewable sheet to a smooth, one-of-a-kind finish.

A refined acetate piece begins with the sheet itself. We look for a warm, dense handfeel: smooth edges, a soft natural gloss, saturated color, and layered texture that feels closer to jade than ordinary plastic. Quality acetate feels rounded and delicate in the hand, with no rough burrs and only a faint natural resin note.

The material is bio-based and renewable, commonly derived from plant sources such as cotton linters and wood pulp rather than petroleum. Its polished surface is gentle against skin and hair, so it is comfortable to wear, less likely to catch strands, and suitable for everyday styling.

Natural acetate patterns form with a flowing, layered character, much like wood grain or stone veining. During cutting, shaping, and hand polishing, every clip captures a different fragment of that pattern, which is why two pieces can share the same tone but never look exactly identical.

Brand Story

A quiet finish for the small rituals that start the day.

Mumu is built around hair accessories that feel considered without feeling formal: clean shapes, comfortable hold, and materials with a little natural movement. The goal is to make an ordinary bun, half-up twist, or loose wave feel more intentional.
